Owen is Executive Chairman of EMR Capital and has more than 40 years’ experience in the global mining industry, including 25 years’ with the Rio Tinto group where he was Managing Director of Rio Tinto Asia and Rio Tinto’s Australian copper and gold business from 1989 to 1994.

Owen was the founder and Managing Director of Oxiana Limited where he led the growth of Oxiana from a junior explorer to an A$6 billion Asia Pacific base and precious metals producer.

Owen is a Fellow and Former Director of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). He is also an advisor on mining and resources generally to a number of government and industry associations.

In 2006, Owen was awarded the AusIMM Institute Medal for his leadership and achievements in the mining industry, and in 2008 he was awarded the GJ Stokes Memorial Award for his distinguished service to the mining industry.

Ian Smith has more than 35 years’ experience in the mining and resources industry and is a past Chairman of the Minerals Council of Australia. Ian was Managing Director and CEO of Newcrest from 2006 to 2011, where, under his leadership, the company’s market capitalisation grew from US$4.5B to US$30B.

From 2011 to 2015, Ian was Managing Director and CEO of Orica and completed Orica’s transition to a mineral services company by selling the Chemicals Division to the Blackstone Group for $US750M, all the while maintaining the company’s margins and volumes through one of the most severe downturns in the resource industry customer base that had been seen in 50 years.

In addition, Ian has held many senior roles in significant Australian mining operations including Olympic Dam, Broken Hill Mines, Elura Mine and Comalco Aluminium Smelting. Ian is a past President of the Australian Mines Metals Association, a past Board Member of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and winner of the 2011 Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy’s Mining Medal, the Institutes highest award.

Ian is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers and Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and is an advisor on mining and resources generally to various industry groups.

Ralph is the CFO of EMR Capital and has over 30 years’ experience in the provision of accounting, assurance and finance related matters.
Prior to joining EMR Capital, Ralph had been a Senior Partner in KPMG Australia for 18 years. In that position he has held various senior roles including Partner in charge of KPMG’s CFO Advisory Practice in Melbourne, responsible for advising CFO’s on strategy, operations and risk.

Prior to that position Ralph was Partner in charge of KPMG’s Enterprise Group a dedicated practice established to provide audit, taxation and advisory services to privately owned Corporate Groups and Family Offices.
Ralph’s experience includes transaction due diligence assignments relating to mergers, acquisitions and divestments. In addition to his external client roles and internal KPMG leadership positions, Ralph has led various strategic and operational initiatives for KPMG.
Ralph was seconded to KPMG Singapore on two occasions prior to his admission as Partner.

Ralph holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Melbourne University, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and is an ASIC registered company auditor.

Tony ManiniDirector

Tony Manini is a Geologist and Business Development Executive with over 25 years’ exploration, development and operations experience in the resources industry. His experience covers a diverse range of commodities in more than 20 countries globally.

He worked with Rio Tinto for 14 years in various technical, commercial and management positions before joining Oxiana Limited in 2000 where he pioneered the entry and establishment of Oxiana’s businesses in six countries and was instrumental in the discovery and development of the Sepon copper and gold mines in Laos, the early stage acquisition and development of the Prominent Hill copper-gold mine in South Australia, several new brownfields discoveries at Golden Grove Mine in Western Australia and discovery of the Okvau gold district in Cambodia.

More recently, Tony was the Executive General Manager for exploration and business development at OZ Minerals Limited with responsibility for exploration, business development and strategic planning.

Tony was a co-founder of the Tigers Realm Minerals Group involved in developing coking coal discoveries in Far Eastern Russia, copper and gold assets in Asia and the Americas, and uranium in Canada. He is also the Director, and and Executive Chairman of AIM listed Asiamet Resources Limited, an Indonesian focused exploration and development company.

Tony qualified with an Honours Degree in Geology from Latrobe University, Melbourne and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Society of Economic Geologists.

John ChomleyDirector

John is a Chemical Engineer with 25 years’ experience in the resources industry. The majority of the first 17 years were spent in operational, technical, business improvement and management roles in base metal processing operations. These roles focused on the development of new operations and the significant improvement of existing operations including roles as Metallurgical Superintendent of Aberfoyle Resources (Australian Stock Exchange listed), Mt Gordon copper operation and Smelter Operations Leader of the Tomago Aluminium Smelter.

John moved into an investments, mergers and acquisitions role with the expanding Oxiana Ltd. He later joined Tigers Realm Minerals Group in 2010 where as Head of Business Development he was an integral member of the team that established three commodity focused public companies – Tigers Realm Coal, Asiamet Resources (copper) and NexGen Energy (uranium). John was seconded to EMR in early 2015 on a full time basis, as a contractor, and was appointed as Investment Director at EMR in late 2015.

John has led cross functional teams to assess resource opportunities in many parts of the world including Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Turkey, Russia and South America.

At Oxiana/OZ and Tigers Realm Group, John worked on the feasibility studies at Oxiana’s Martabe Gold Project, Tigers Realm Coal’s Amaam project and joint venture management at Asiamet Resources (which was formed through the merger of Kalimantan Gold and Tigers Realm Metals).

Stefanie (Stef) Loader, is a company director, geologist and former mining executive with expertise at board and executive level in industry associations, not-for-profit organisations, mining operations, mineral exploration and project development. In her 24 year executive career Stef worked in seven countries across four continents.

Stef was Managing Director of Northparkes copper and gold mine for CMOC International and Rio Tinto from 2012 – 2017 and Chair of the NSW Minerals Council from 2015 to 2017.  She started her career with Rio Tinto and has explored for copper and gold in Australia, Laos, Chile and Peru, and been involved in diamond project development and operations in Canada and India.  Stef was part of the discovery team for the Khanong copper deposit at Sepon, Laos. She also served in the office of the CEO for Rio Tinto supporting the Executive Committee and as Exploration Executive.

Stef is also a non-executive director with Clean TeQ Holdings (ASX TSX: CLQ), and advises a range of organisations, as a director and consultant, in the areas of leadership, strategy, community services and regional economic development.

Stef was recognised as one of AFR 100 Women of Influence in 2013. She is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
